South Africa: City Sightseeing South Africa resumes operations in Johannesburg!

City Sightseeing South Africa, operator of the well-kown red open-top hop-on-hop-off sightseeing buses in Cape Town and Johannesburg, is set to resume operations in Johannesburg on 24 September 2020. The company has incorporated several new procedures to ensure the safety of both its passengers and staff. Only travellers wearing face masks will be permitted to board the buses. To keep the buses within the legislated protocol, City Sightseeing South Africa will only be travelling with a maximum of 50% capacity and has ensured that only every second row of seats will be occupied.

City Sightseeing South Africa, operator of the well-kown red open-top hop-on-hop-off sightseeing buses in Cape Town and Johannesburg, is set to resume operations in Cape Town. Effective 08 August 2020, the company will be offering its two main routes - the Red Route Urban Safari (1hrs:45min) and the Blue Route Scenic Safari (2hrs+) - on weekends and public holidays only. City Sightseeing South Africa has incorporated several new procedures to ensure the safety of both its passengers and staff. Only travellers wearing face masks will be permitted to board the buses. To respect social distancing the buses will be traveling with a reduced capacity and have ensured that only every second row of seats will be occupied. 

City Sightseeing South Africa to launch a new service in Hermanus!

update (31 March 2020): City Sightseeing South Africa has suspended its Hop-On Hop-Off open top bus tours in Cape Town, Johannesburg and Hermanus for an initial period until at least 19 April 2020.

City Sightseeing South Africa, operator of the well-kown red open-top hop-on-hop-off sightseeing buses in Cape Town and Johannesburg, is set to launch a new service in Hermanus in South Africa's Western Cape this week. City Sightseeing Hermanus will offer hourly 90-minute tours through Hermanus, which will include stops at the Old Harbour, the New Harbour, Rotary Way and Grotto Bay. This gives customers the opportunity to enjoy Voëlklip beach, Langbaai beach and Grotto beach, take in the sea views overlooking Walker Bay, uncover the local history of the Old Harbour and the New Harbour, get an insight into the Zwelihle Township and experience the breath-taking views from the Rotary Way lookout point. City Sightseeing introduces two free guided Cape Town walking tours!

City Sightseeing Cape Town has teamed up with Nielsen Tours to offer two free guided walking tours in Cape Town. Both tours depart from and return to City Sightseeing's new Longstreet Tour Office (stop #5 on their bus tours). The "Historic City Walk" departs at 11:00 and returns at approx. 12:30, while the "Bo-Kaap Walk" departs at 15:00 and returns at approx. 16:30. You don't need to book theses tours, just arrive at the City Sightseeing's Longstreet Tour Office in time for one of the free tours.

The Historic City Walk (11:00, 90 min) includes:

• St Georges Cathedral – hear about Desmond Tutu
• The Parliament and presidents house – the land of many capitals
• The Old Strand and Old Mutual Building – African style architecture and where the beach used to be
• City Hall – where Mandela gave his world famous speech
• Green Market Square
• The Parade and the Castle of Good Hope
• The flower Market – meet South Africa’s National flower “in person”
• The Slave Lodge – where thousands of slaves were kept
• Company Gardens with probably the world’s oldest pear tree and the begging squirrels

The Bo-Kaap Walk (15:00, approx. 90 min) includes:

• Greenmarket Square - filled with African art, drums, cloths, jewellery, great coffee shops
• Cape Malay Quarter Hills

City Sightseeing Johannesburg: New "Hop-on, hop-off"-tour through Soweto

City Sightseeing Johannesburg, launched earlier in 2013, has teamed up with entrepreneurial company "SO WE TOO" to add an exciting new extension to their existing Red City Tour. This new partnership makes it very easy for passengers to not only explore Johannesburg's CBD but also to extend their visit to include the excitement of Soweto. "SO WE TOO" offers taxi tours through the streets of the South Western Townships, visiting the area’s top attractions. City Sightseeing staff will assist with the seamless connection between bus and taxi and this hop-on, hop-off taxi tour, which takes place in a air-conditioned Quantum bus. The operator of City Sightseeing, a global sightseeing bus brand, in South Africa is not only running city tours in Cape Town, but also, since January 2013, in Johannesburg. City Sightseeing's tour of Johannesburg follows a circular route around the city and stops 12 of the city's landmarks, including the Apartheid Museum, Gold Reef City and Constitution Hill. The entire tour takes approximately two hours and buses depart every 40min from each stop along the route. South Africa: City Sightseeing to start city tours in Johannesburg

update (28 Dec 2012): City Sightseeing will launch its tours in Johannesburg on 15 January 2013 (Tickets will be available from 10 January 2013)

Great news for Johannesburg! City Sightseeing, a global sightseeing bus brand, will from January 2013 not only be running hop on - hop off tours with their iconic red buses in Cape Town, but also in Johannesburg.
From Constitution Hill to Newtown and the Origins Centre at Wits, City Sightseeing will allow visitors to explore the Johannesburg’s most famous tourist locations in a safe and convenient way, making the city more tourist-friendly. The City Sightseeing buses, which operate in 100 cities on six continents around the world, will offer commentary in 17 languages.
According to Dawn Roberston, CEO of the Gauteng Tourism Authority, City Sightseeing and the Tourism Authority are also looking at bringing the buses to Pretoria.
