The City of Cape Town has announced that a road rehabilitation project will take place along Tafelberg Road, from Kloof Nek Road to the Lower Cableway Station located in the Table Mountain National Park. The work is planned to commence this week, for a period of 12 months. Tafelberg Road is the main access route to the Table Mountain National Park and the Table Mountain aerial cableway. To ensure access, a stop-and-go system will be implemented along sections of no more than 500m at a time.
The rehabilitation work is intended to:
- Restore and upgrade the road
- Rehabilitate the parking facilities
- Rehabilitate the stormwater infrastructure
- Restore and maintain the non-motorised transport facilities such as the formal walkways in and around the cableway
- Restore the embankment retaining structures
