Namibia: Walvis Bay remains in stage one; lockdown extended to the entire Erongo Region!

The Government of Namibia has decided not to lift the current lockdown in Walvis Bay and to extent it to the entire Erongo Region, including Swakopmund. According to a statement by Namibia's President Dr. Hage G. Geingob, observations show that members of the public in Walvis Bay are not adhering to lockdown measures. This behaviour increases the potential for community spread and the risk level for the coastal town and surrounding towns is high. As a matter of fact, this non-compliance necessitates more stringent measures to curb the spread beyond Walvis Bay. Effective from midnight tonight (08 June 2020) until midnight 22 June 2020, the Government of Namibia will enforce stage one restrictions of its four-stage strategy to curb the spread of the coronavirus in Walvis Bay and the entire Erongo Region. To date, Namibia has recorded 31 COVID-19 cases with 16 recovery cases.
