Namibia: Rainfall forecast October 2012 - March 2013

The Meteorological Service of Namibia has released the regional rainfall forecast for Namibia for the duration October 2012 - March 2013. The good news is that the greater part of the country is expected to have only a 25% probability of receiving below average rainfall. The not so good news ist that the meteorlogists are estimating a probability of a below average rainy season of 35% for the western parts of Namibia, including the Caprivi region, most of the Kunene region, the western half of the Erongo region, and about a third of the Hardap region and the Karas region.
Namibia has two seasons for rain, both in summer. The small rainy season lasts from about September to November. During the three month, small showers fall from time to time across most of the country. The main rainy season in Namibia lasts from January to April and can be extremely hot. Violent thunderstorms accompanied by flash floods particularly in the north are not unusual.
