Kruger National Park: Crocodile Bridge Rest Camp fuel station temporarily closed for maintenance!

South African National Parks (SANParks) has announced that the filling station at Crocodile Bridge Rest Camp in the Kruger National Park is currently closed for maintenance. The maintenance work has taken longer than initially expected, resulting in a temporary disruption in fuel availability at the camp.
Until further notice, visitors travelling to Crocodile Bridge Rest Camp are advised to fill up their vehicles before entering the park and to plan accordingly to ensure sufficient fuel for game drives and transfers between camps.

Nearest filling stations outside Kruger National Park
Travellers heading to Crocodile Bridge Gate will find several convenient refuelling options in nearby towns:

• Komatipoort (±12 km from Crocodile Bridge Gate):
• Multiple filling stations including Engen Komatipoort, Shell Komatipoort, and TotalEnergies Komatipoort. This is the closest and most reliable stop before entering the park.
• Malelane (±35 km from Crocodile Bridge Rest Camp):
• A slightly larger town offering several service stations such as BP Malelane, Caltex, TotalEnergies Malelane, and Engen One Stop Malelane. It’s an excellent option for travellers entering via Malelane Gate or heading toward Lower Sabie or Skukuza.

Nearest filling stations inside Kruger National Park
Once inside the park, the following rest camps offer fuel for visitors continuing their journey:

• Lower Sabie Rest Camp – Approximately 35 km northwest of Crocodile Bridge. Lower Sabie has a fully operational petrol and diesel station and is the closest in-park alternative.
• Skukuza Rest Camp – Roughly 90 km from Crocodile Bridge, Skukuza is the largest camp in Kruger and has a modern filling station with both petrol and diesel available.
• Letaba Rest Camp – Located in the north-central region of Kruger, Letaba also features a fuel station and serves as a reliable option for travellers on extended itineraries deeper into the park.

According to SANParks, “Petrol and diesel are available at all major camps,” but visitors should note that availability cannot always be guaranteed due to maintenance or delivery delays.

Travel tip
Before entering Kruger National Park through Crocodile Bridge Gate, ensure your vehicle’s tank is full and consider topping up again at Lower Sabie Rest Camp if your route continues into the park. Keeping a close eye on your fuel level is essential, especially when exploring remote areas with limited services.

Kruger National Park: Petrol pumps at the Orpen Rest Camp filling station are currently not working! [update]

update (21 May 2024): The petrol pumps at Orpen Rest Camp in Kruger National Park are still not working. Only Diesel is currently available. 

South African National Parks (SANParks) has announced that that the petrol pumps at the Total Energies service station at Orpen Rest Camp in Kruger National Park are currently not working. This is due to a system error. TotalEnergies have been made aware of the issue. We'll keep you posted!
Orpen Rest Camp is situated in the central-western region of the Kruger National Park. It is located near the Orpen Gate, which is one of the entry points into the National Park. Facilities at the rest camp include a restaurant, grocery store, fuel station and a swimming pool to cool off during the warmer days. Additionally, there are picnic sites and communal kitchen facilities available for use.

Kruger National Park: Problems with diesel pump at Crocodile Bridge Rest Camp! [update]

update (15 March 2024): SANParks has announced that the diesel pumps have been repaired and are accessible again.

According to South African National Parks (SANParks), problems with the diesel pump are currently experienced at Crocodile Bridge Rest Camp in Kruger National Park. SANParks advises visitors to the Rest Camp to fill up at alternative stations until further notice. The closest petrol station inside Kruger National Park is located at Lower Sabie Rest Camp, which is situated approximately 36 kilometers northwest of Crocodile Bridge Rest Camp. The closest petrol station outside Kruger National Park is located in the town of Komatipoort, approximately 8 kilometers from Crocodile Bridge Rest Camp.
The Crocodile Bridge Rest Camp is located  in the south-eastern corner of the Kruger National Park, on the northern bank of the Crocodile River. It is situated near the Crocodile Bridge Gate.

Kruger National Park: Filling station at Berg-en-Dal Rest Camp closed until further notice! [update #2]

update (19 April 2024): SANParks has announced that the filling station at the Berg-en-Dal Rest Camp will be open and ready to render services to guests from 20 April 2024.

update (16 April 2024): The filling station at the Berg-en-Dal Rest Camp is still under construction/maintenance!

South African National Parks (SANParks) has announced that the filling station at the Berg-en-Dal Rest Camp is currently closed for maintenance reasons until further notice. SANParks request that guests fill up at alternative filling stations for the time being. The closest petrol station from Berg-en-Dal Rest Camp is located at Malelane, which is approximately 12 kilometers away. Malelane Gate is the nearest entrance/exit point to Berg-en-Dal Rest Camp. update (20 March 2024): There is also a fuel station called Nkomazi (adjacent to Paradise Creek Lodge) on the Jeppes Reef road.
The Berg-en-Dal Rest Camp is situated on the bank of the Matjulu Spruit in the Malelane Mountain Bushveld in the southern part of Kruger National Park. The closest entrance gate to the Rest Camp is Malelane Gate. The Berg-en-Dal Rest Camp is 12 kilometres away from the Gate. Berg-en-Dal offers a cafeteria and a shop, the Tindlovu Restaurant, a communal laundromat, filling station, communal kitchens and ablutions, braai facilities, an auditorium and conference facilities, a basic day visitor picnic area in the camp, and a swimming pool for overnight residents.

Kruger National Park: Fuel station taken out by lightning strike!

South African National Parks (SANParks) has confirmed that the filling station at Lower Sabie Rest Camp in Kruger National Park has burnt down after it was struck by lightning on 13 November 2021. The fire was contained by the Kruger National Park's firefighting team. No injuries were reported but the filling station was completely gutted. According to a social media update by Kruger National Park's spokesperson, Isaac Phaahla, guests can refuel their vehicles either at Skukuza Rest Camp or Crocodile Bridge Rest Camp until further notice. We'll keep you posted!
