Zimbabwe: Rainforest in the Victoria Falls National Park to temporarily close!

The Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA) has informed the public on behalf of the Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Authority (ZimParks) on "x" that the rainforest in the Victoria Falls National Park in Victoria Falls will temporarily close because of a "special event" happening the National Park on 15 April 2024 from 16:00 onwards. ZimParks urges visitors to adjust their itineraries for the day (!) accordingly. This might indicate, that the rainforest reopens to the public on 16 April 2024. We'll keep you posted!

Zimbabwe: Covid-19 guidelines for travellers!

The Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA), the tourism governing body in Zimbabwe, has released the current Zimbabwe Tourism Covid 19 Guidelines as at 07 July 2021. All travellers in Zimbabwe are subject to the following conditions:

  1. On arrival, passengers are required to complete Health Questionnaires detailling where they have travelled to and providing personal details for Covid-19 tracking purposes.
  2. Upon arrival, all travellers are required to present a negative PCR Covid-19 Clearance Certificate issued by a recognized facility within 48 hours from the date of departure.
  3. Travellers with fake Covid-19 documents will attract custodial sentences.
  4. Travellers coming from high-risk areas of the Covid-19 Alpha and Delta variants shall be quarantined at their own expenses with PCR tests conducted on days 1, 3, 5 and 10.
  5. Those departed back to Zimbabwe will be subject to self-quarantine or will be quarantined in identified places.
  6. Upon clearance to enter into Zimbabwe, tourists are expected to follow Covid-19 guideles at hospitality and recreation facilities.
  7. Domestic tourists are not required to present Covid-19 certificates but are expected to follow Covid-19 guidelies at hospitality and recreation facilities.
  8. A dedicated national toll-free "2023" helpline and call centre is available for information about Covid-19 to travellers.
  9. On departure tourists can obtain Covid-19 certificates from the approved laboratories.

The following restrictions remain in place to prevent the spreat of Covid-19:

  1. Wearing of masks, social distancing, and hand sanitizinh must be observed all times with in public places.
  2. Restaurants may only serve customers on a takeaway basis and may not provide seating for waiting customers.
  3. Bars attached to hotels and lodges must close by 22:00.
  4. Business operating time is the period between 08:00 and 15:30.
  5. Curfew is between 18:30 and 06:00.
  6. International airports are open to all travellers but land borders remain closed for visitors except commercial traffic, diplomats and returning residents.
These Covid-19 guidelines are subject to change depending on the Statutory Instruments issued at a given time period.

Zimbabwe: Free entry to several museums on International Museum Day!

The Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA) has announced that National Museums and Monuments of Zimbabwe (NMMZ) is set to join the international museums community in commemorating the International Museums Day (IMD) 2021. Several museums in Zimbabwe, including the Natural History Museum of Zimbabwe in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe Museum of Human Sciences in Harare, the Military Museum in Gweru, the Mutare Museum in Mutare and the Kwekwe Museum in Kwekwe, will therefore be free of charge on 18 May 2021. Due to the current Covid-19 situation, only a limited number of visitors will be allowed in the participating museums.

Zimbabwe: The Harare International Carnival has been postponed until further notice!

The Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA) announced the postponement of the annual Harare International Carnival until further notice. The event, which was initially pencilled to take place in October 2018 and was already deferred to December 2018, celebrates the beauty of the Zimbabwean cultural diversity. In a press release the ZTA names competing events at this time of the year, careful consideration of the weather conditions in Zimbabwe that are usually characterised by rainfall and the current prevailing economic climate as main reasons for the postponement. National Museums and Monuments of Zimbabwe: Free entry on International Museum Day!

The Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA) just announced on Facebook, that National Museums and Monuments of Zimbabwe (NMMZ), the premier heritage organization in Zimbabwe, will offer free entrance to all its museums on International Museum Day on 18 May 2018. The country's official International Museums Day celebrations will be held at the Great Zimbabwe World Heritage Site, located in the south-eastern hills of Zimbabwe near Lake Mutirikwe and the town of Masvingo.
