Cape Town: Tokai Forest picnic site in the Table Mountain National Park closed until further notice!

South African National Parks (SANParks) has announced that the Tokai Forest picnic site in the Table Mountain National Park in Cape Town is currently closed until further notice due to the water supply disruption resulting in the ablution facilities being out of service. Cyclists are advised to make use of the parking area in the picnic site to fulfill their activities. SANParks encourages visitors to make use of other alternatives in the Table Mountain National Park such as the Newlands, Oudekraal, and Silvermine picnic areas.
The Tokai Forest picnic site is situated within the larger Tokai Forest area, which is part of the Table Mountain National Park and about 20 kilometers south of Cape Town's city center. The site is easily accessible by car, and there is ample parking available. The main entrance is at Tokai Road, off the M3 highway.

Cape Town: Tokai Forest Braai & Picnic Site in the Table Mountain National Park temporarily closed!

South African National Parks (SANParks) has announced that the Tokai Forest Braai & Picnic Site in the Table Mountain National Park in Cape Town is temporarily closed. This is due to planned water supply maintenance affecting the National Park's Tokai precinct. This result in the ablution facilities at the Picnic Site being out of service. 


The Tokai Forest Braai & Picnic Site is situated on the edge of the Tokai Plantation in the Table Mountain National Park. The Picnic Site is centrally located, offers  ample space for larger gatherings and is convenient for accessing many enjoyable trails through the Tokai Plantation. Alcohol, dogs and music are prohibited.

Cape Town: Tokai Picnic Site has been reopened!

South African National Parks (SANParks) has announced that the Tokai Picnic Site in the Tokai Park, which forms part of the greater Table Mountain National Park (TMNP) in Cape Town, has been reopened to the public on 17 October 2020. According to SANParks, the gate entry times are 07:00 - 18:00 with an exit time at 19:00 daily. The following protocols apply:

  • No mask - no entry.
  • Maintain social distancing by at least 1.5m at all times.
  • Limitations of visitor numbers may be imposed at the Picnic site at the staff's discretion.
  • Free standing braais are not permitted at the picnic site and we encourage guests to make use of the existing braai facilities.  
  • No alcohol and no Gazebos permitted on site.


SANParks encourages all visitors to adhere to and respect the rules of the park and pick up their litter. For the love of nature: Take only photos and leave only footprints.
