West Coast National Park: R27 Gate closure extended! [update]

update (19 November 2025): South African National Parks (SANParks) has  officially opened the brand-new R27 Gate, a vibrant new gateway welcoming visitors to the magnificent West Coast National Park!

South African National Parks (SANParks) has confirmed that the R27 Gate (also known as the West Coast entry gate) to the West Coast National Park in South Africa's Western Cape will remain closed due to ongoing construction work. The gate is now expected to reopen on 05 July 2025, a change from the previously announced date of 14 June 2025.
The extended closure is essential to complete the construction and upgrade of the R27 Gate facility, ensuring improved infrastructure and visitor experience in the future.
During this time, all visitors must access the West Coast National Park via the Langebaan Gate. SANParks advises travelers to plan accordingly and apologizes for any inconvenience caused.

West Coast National Park: R27 Gate temporarily closed!

South African National Parks (SANParks) is currently upgrading the R27 Gate Facility at West Coast National Park in South Africa's Western Cape. The infrastructure improvement project began in February 2025 and is expected to be completed over a period of six months.
As part of the ongoing construction, the R27 Gate will be closed to the public from 22 April to 14 June 2025. During this time, all access to West Coast National Park will be rerouted through the Langebaan Gate.
These upgrades are part of SANParks' ongoing efforts to improve West Coast National Park's infrastructure and ensure a better experience for all visitors. Travellers are encouraged to plan ahead and use the Langebaan Gate for entry and exit during the temporary closure.
