update (09 February 2023): Zambia Airways did not launch fligths to Johannesburg in South Africa due to delays in securing the Foreign Operator Permit which is a requirement for the commencement of regional flights. According to news reports from Zambia, the airline is now planing to launch regional flights - presumingly to Johannesburg - before the end of March 2023. We'll keep you posted!
The national airline of the Republic of Zambia, Zambia Airways, is set to launch scheduled services to Johannesburg in South Africa. Effective 01 July 2022, the airline will operate direct flights between Kenneth Kaunda International Airport (LUN) in Lusaka and OR Tambo Internation Airport (JNB) in Johannesburg. The new route was announced by Zambia's Minister of Transport and Logistics Frank Tayali at the occasion of the offical launch of the Zambia Airways central ticketing office at East Park Mall in Lusaka.
Zambia Airways, a joint venture between Zambia's state-owned Industrial Development Corporation (IDC; 55%) and Ethiopian Airlines (45%), commenced operations on 01 December 2021. The airline currently connects Lusaka with the tourist heart of Zambia, Livingstone, Ndola in the Copperbelt Province and Solwezi in Zambia's North-Western Province.
