update (03 Aug 2017): Two illegally killed rhino carcasses – that of a cow and a calf- were discovered in the Etosha National Park on Tuesday (01 Aug 2017) morning.
According to the latest figures released by the Ministry of Environment and Tourism (MET), Namibia has lost at least 16 rhinos and 16 elephants to illegal poaching since January 2017. Out of the 16 rhinos killed by poachers, seven rhinos have recently (23 June - 25 June 2017 been discovered during aerial patrols in the country's famous Etosha National Park.
The Ministry of Environment and Tourism in Namibia offers rewards of N$60 000 for information that lead to the arrest and prosecution of rhino poachers.
