Plettenberg Bay Game Reserve in the Western Cape province of South Africa is now running tours on their property with the believed to be "first battery-operated game-viewing vehicle" in the World.
The vehicle (average speed of 25km/h) is run by a rechargeable 72-volt battery pack which is using 12 deep cycle electric-car batteries. The pack is stored under the back seat and only needs to get plugged into the mains at night to recharge when demand for electricity is low.
Plettenberg Bay Private Game Reserve is the Southern Cape's biggest game reserve and is home to Africa’s Big 4 (buffalo, lion, leopard and rhino). The reserve is situated on over 2000 hectares of indigenous beauty and is malaria free.
