Zambia: Mfuwe International Airport (MFU) gets an upgrade!

The Zambia Airports Corporation Limited (ZACL) has announced that Mfuwe International Airport (MFU), which serves the tourism industry based on the nearby South Luangwa National Park and other wildlife areas in the Luangwa Valley, will undergo a period of rehabilitation, commencing on 13 June 2024. The scope of work will comprise rehabilitation of the runway, taxiway and apron pavements, upgrade of the airfield ground lighting (AGL) system to replace the current one which is obsolete, re-construction of the inner perimeter fence, and extension of the terminal building. The upgrade of the airport is expected to take 90 days.
The Zambia Airports Corporation Limited (ZACL) initially planed to close Mfuwe International Airport (MFU) during the rehabilitation period, but the Government of Zambia has directed the ZACL to ensure that the airport remains open as works are being undertaken to improve the infrastructure. According to the Zambian Minister of Transport and Logistics, Frank Tayali, the Government is of the view that the closure of the Mfuwe international Airport (MFU) will cause serious disruptions especially during this peak period in the tourism industry.

Zambia: New parking management system at Harry Mwaanga Nkumbula International Airport (LVI) in Livingstone!

The Zambia Airports Corporation Limited (ZACL) has introduced a "Pay on Exit Parking Management System" at Harry Mwaanga Nkumbula International Airport (LVI) in Livingstone. Effective today (13 December 2021), the new system will be operationalised. The ZACL has constructed and installed two entry and exit boom gates at the airport, which are utilised on the pay on exit basis. The operation hours of the parking facilites are daily from 05:00 to 19:00. Visa and cash payments are accepted.
The following parking tariffs are in place at Harry Mwaanga Nkumbula International Airport (LVI) in Livingstone:

  • 0 - 1 hrs > 6.00 ZMW
  • 1 - 2 hrs > 8.00 ZMW
  • 2 - 3 hrs > 10.00 ZMW
  • 3 - 4 hrs > 12.00 ZMW
  • 4 - 5 hrs > 15.00 ZMW
  • 5 - 6 hrs > 20.00 ZMW
  • 6 - 7 hrs > ?
  • 7 - 8 hrs > 25.00 ZMW
  • 8 - 12 hrs > 45.00 ZMW

Zambia: The new Terminal 2 at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport (LUN) in Lusaka is now operational! [update]

update (20 August 2021): The Zambia Airports Corporation Limited (ZACL) has announced that passengers departing from Kenneth Kaunda International Airport (LUN) in Lusaka on flights with Emirates, Air Tanzania and Kenya Airways are advised to use Terminal 1 until further notice. All other departing international passengers should use the new Terminal 2.

Zambia Airports Corporation Limited (ZACL), the state-owned company responsible for the development, maintenance and management of the four international airports in Zambia, has announced that the newly constructed state of the art new passenger terminal (Terminal 2) at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport (LUN) in Lusaka is now operational. Effective today (05 August 2021), it will be used for international travel. Domestic passengers will continue to be processed from the current terminal also known as Terminal 1 until further notice.
The construction of the new Terminal 2 forms part of an extensive airport expansion project, which started in June 2015. It comprises of the new passenger terminal, a hotel, rescue and fire station, air traffic control, presidential pavilion, cargo terminal, a shopping mall and an office complex. According to ZACL Managing Director Fumu Mondoloka, the construction works at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport (LUN) in Lusaka will be be complete within this quarter (3Q2021). ZACL expects that once commissioned the current airport capacity of 2 million passeners per year will increase to about 6 million passengers per year.
