Cape Town: The Iziko Planetarium and Digital Dome is temporarily closed!

Iziko Museums of South Africa has announced that the Iziko Planetarium and Digital Dome, the most advanced digital planetarium on the African continent, is currently not functional and will be closed temporarily until further notice. We'll keep you posted!
The Iziko Planetarium and Digital Dome, located side-by-side with the Iziko South African Museum overlooking the Company’s Gardens in Cape Town, is a world-class, multifunctional planetarium that makes virtual voyages of the universe possible, providing an unparalleled experience of animation and 360° cinema.

Iziko Planetarium and Digital Dome (Cape Town): Free access during National Science Week 2019!

In support of South Africa's National Science Week 2019, Iziko Museums of South Africa provides free access to the Iziko Planetarium and Digital Dome in Cape Town from 30 July 2019 until 4 August 2019. All free shows during that time are sponsored by the South African Agency for Science and Technology Advancement (SAASTA). Free shows include: Polaris, The Secrets of Gravity, Sky Tonight, Dark Universe, Mayan Archeoastronomy and Dream to Fly. Tickets are available online via quicket or at the door on a first-come-first-serve basis.

Iziko Museums of South Africa (Iziko) has announced that the Iziko Planetarium and Digital Dome in Cape Town is closed for software maintenance upgrade from today (08 July 2019) until 12 July 2019.



The Iziko Planetarium and Digital Dome is the most advanced digital planetarium on the African continent. It makes virtual voyages of the universe possible, providing an unparalleled experience of animation and 360° cinema. The Planetarium is one of only six fully-fledged planetaria on the African continent. It is located in 25 Queen Victoria Street, Cape Town.

Cape Town: The revamped Iziko Planetarium and Digital Dome set to reopen!

The revamped Iziko Planetarium and Digital Dome in Cape Town is set to open it's doors to the public on 27 May 2017. The Planetarium, which is located at the Iziko South African Museum in Queen Victoria Street (Gardens), underwent a major digital upgrade since July 2017 and is now a world-class digital fulldome high res 3D-theatre with multiple functionality. It provides unequalled edu-tainment, making virtual travel to explore the universe, the depths of the oceans, the inner working of the human body, the intricacies of atomic and chemical structures possible, or just providing animation and 360° cinema for sheer entertainment. Tickets for the re-opening of the Iziko Planetarium and Digital Dome can be purchased at the door and members of the public are encouraged to arrive early on opening day to secure a seat. Seating for each show is limited to 140 visitors.
