update (11 September 2025): SANParks has confirmed that Table Mountain National Park will extend the free access period until Sunday, 28 September 2025.
South African National Parks (SANParks) has officially announced the dates for the 20th annual South African National Parks Week, a highly anticipated event that gives locals the chance to explore some of South Africa's most iconic natural treasures for free. This year’s National Parks Week will run from 22 to 26 September 2025, with select parks extending the offer until 27 and 28 September 2025.
During this period, free day visits will be available at most of the 21 national parks managed by SANParks. Visitors should note that the free access applies to entry fees only - accommodation, guided tours, and other tourist activities will still be charged at the standard rates.
Launched in 2006, South African National Parks Week has grown into a flagship conservation awareness campaign, attracting thousands of day visitors each year. Its aim is to foster national pride in South Africa's rich natural, cultural, and historical heritage, while highlighting the country’s inclusive approach to conservation. The initiative also strengthens partnerships with local communities, businesses, scientists, and eco-tourists to promote sustainable tourism and environmental stewardship.
