The eThekwini Municipality, the local government body responsible for governing and managing Durban in KwaZulu-Natal, on Thursday (29 September 2022) announced that following the latest round of testing it has taken a decision to close eight of Durban's southern beaches with immediate effect. The following beaches are closed: Isiphingo, Ansteys, Amanzimtoti Main, Warner, Gavies, Baggies, Reunion, and Winklespruit beaches. All water activities at these beaches are banned for health reasons. The water quality at Durban's central beaches has significantly improved, but they remain closed pending further monitoring. Beaches that remain open include Umgababa, Umkomaas, Brighton, and Treasure beaches.
