A team from GoPro's production crew recently visited Kevin Richardson, also known as the "lion whisperer", to explore the danger and beauty of his passions for lions and their future. Kevin's "Kevin Richardson Wildlife Sanctuary" is located just an hour north east of Johannesburg and half an hour from Pretoria in the Welgedacht Private Game Reserve, which forms part of the Dinokeng Game Reserve. Since 01 Nov 2013 Kevin's Wildlife Sanctuary is open to the public. Tours include a welcome refreshment, sanctuary tour and a guided game drive with a Field Guides Association of Southern Africa (FGASA) guide in the greater area of the Big Five Reserve, as well as a boma braai lunch at the end of the tour. Lion Park (Johannesburg): The teenager & his hyena
If you are visiting the famous Lion Park near Johannesburg, you might get the chance to meet 16-year-old schoolboy Shandor Larenty and his 18-month-old spotted hyena named Thender. Thender was rejected by his mother, so Shandor’s dad, British lion wrangler Alex Larenty agreed to take him in to his house for some weeks and, later on, to live with the other hyenas at his Lion Park.
Now that Thender is a fully-grown hyena, Shandor and him are so used to each other that the hyena is not only eating out of Shandor’s mouth, but is also letting him clean his teeth afterwards. Another amazing story from the African bush. Kudos Matt Tabaccos from NR5 for the video below!

South Africa: Inside the hyena feast (video)
Filmed in the MalaMala Game Reserve in South Africa, the following video shows how close wildlife filmmaker Kim Wolhuter gets to a pack of wild hyenas. He even gets that close and personal with the beasts that he could film them in the middle of a night kill!
