The Eastern Cape Parks & Tourism Agency (ECPTA) will offer free day access to 11 provincial nature reserves in the Eastern Cape from 24 September to 04 October 2026.
The Free Access Week 2026 promotion waives both gate and conservation fees for day visitors at participating reserves. It does not include accommodation, activities or other additional costs.
The free-access promotion applies to day visitors at the following reserves in the Eastern Cape:
- Thomas Baines Nature Reserve
- Waters Meeting Nature Reserve
- Tsolwana/Commando Drift Nature Reserve
- Mpofu/Fort Fordyce Nature Reserve
- Oviston Nature Reserve
- East London Coast Nature Reserve
- Ongeluksnek Nature Reserve
- Silaka Nature Reserve
- Mkambati Nature Reserve
- Hluleka Nature Reserve
- Groendal Nature Reserve
The participating reserves cover several parts of the Eastern Cape, from the coastal reserves around East London and the Wild Coast to inland conservation areas.
The promotion is therefore particularly relevant to travellers planning day trips or self-drive itineraries in the Eastern Cape. Overnight visitors will still have to pay for accommodation, while activities remain subject to the usual charges.
ECPTA says the promotion may be amended or cancelled without notice, so travellers should check directly with their chosen reserve before visiting.
