Sabi Sand Reserve: Cheetah Plains Lodge reopened!

The Cheetah Plains Private Game Reserve, a traditional style safari lodge situated in the north of the Sabi Sand Private Game Reserve, has reopened after undergoing renovations.
The refurbishment included rebuilding the outside decks as well as paving the outside areas. Each chalet was repainted and refurnished.

The Cheetah Plains Lodge has six standard rooms, which are comfortable and homely and equipped with an en suite bathroom, including a shower. The two luxury rooms are a bit bigger and both have an en suite bathroom as well as an outdoor shower is the perfect place to start your morning.
The Sabi Sand Private Game Reserve is a private game reserve covering an area of 60,000-65,000 ha. Situated near to the Kruger Gate, Sabi Sand shares a common 50 km unfenced boundary with the Kruger National Park to the east.

South Africa: Sabi Sand Reserve to increase gate fees

South Africa's oldest private game reserve, the Sabi Sand Reserve in Mpumalanga, will increase its gate fees. From 01 September 2012, guests entering at Newington Gate will be required to pay R160 per vehicle and an additional R40 per occupant.
The 65 000 hectare Sabi Sand Reserve is sharing a 50km (31.25 miles) unfenced border with the Kruger National Park and is home to more than 145 mammal species, including the Big Five, and to approx. 500 bird species.Two rivers supply the game reserve with a valuable water source - the Sand River flows through the reserve for 50km (31 miles) from north west to south east whilst the Sabie River flows on the southern boundary.

Filmed in the MalaMala Game Reserve in South Africa, the following video shows how close wildlife filmmaker Kim Wolhuter gets to a pack of wild hyenas. He even gets that close and personal with the beasts that he could film them in the middle of a night kill!

MalaMala Game Reserve is the largest private Big Five game reserve in South Africa. Comprising 13300ha, MalaMala shares a 19km unfenced border with the world-renowned Kruger National Park, and lies strategically sandwiched between the National Park and the Sabi Sand Reserve.

South Africa: Londolozi got a brand new electric safari vehicle from Land Rover

The Londolozi Private Game Reserve, located in Sabi Sand Game Reserve, adjacent to the Kruger National Park, recently got a brand new electric Land Rover, courtesy of Land Rover and Barker Performance Products, to do some rigorous and rough fieldtesting with the vehicle.

The electric Landrover runs off an air cooled AC Induction Motor with 330Nm of Torque and 59kW of Motor Power. The batter is comprised of air cooled Lithium Phosphate and has a voltage of 300V. Ranging from 80km per battery on the open road and +20km through a game reserve, the vehicle is able to offer a game drive of approximately 8 hours.

Wildlife video: A leopard in action!

Filmed in the Londolozi Private Game Reserve in the Sabi Sand Reserve (adjacent to the Kruger National Park), the video below shows how a leopard, who made a kill earlier, is trying to rearrange its prey in a tree to continue feeding. The tree, for some reasons, isn't the perfect one for such purpose and so the leopard has make use of all its skills to finally feed on the antilope. Kudos to Roho Ya Chui for the filming and sharing the video!
