South African Airways to cancel Cape Town <> London service

South Africa's flag carrier South African Airways will cancel its direct service between Cape Town <> London after 20 years of service. From 15 Aug 2012 flights between the two destinations will be re-routed via Johannesburg, the airline announced on 05 June 2012.
Declining passenger numbers to the UK and increasing airport taxes in that country were some of the reasons for South African Airways ending the Cape Town <> London service.
The last flight will depart Cape Town on 14 Aug 2012; the last departure from London Heathrow will be on 15 Aug 2012.
South African Airways has currently two daily services between Johannesburg and London and will be increasing its capacity on these flights by 13% through the use of larger aircraft to accommodate passengers from Cape Town.
