Namibia to protect its entire coastline as a National Park

Namibia will soon become the first continental country to have its entire coastline protected. The protected area will stretch 1,570 km from the Kunene River in the North to the Orange River in the South. The National Park will tbe 8th largest protected area in the world, the 6th largest terrestrial protected area, and the largest park in Africa, covering an area of 107,540 km².


The Greater Namib-Skeleton Coast National Park will be formed out of
  • The National West Coast Recreation Area (between Sandwich Harbour and the Ugab River), which will soon be consilidated and proclaimed as one conservation area.
  • the Skeleton Coast Park
  • the Namib Naukluft Park
  • the Sperrgebiet National Park
  • the Namibian Islands Marine Protected Area 
Greater Namib-Skeleton Coast National Park is acutally only a provisional name.  An official name should be announced soon, after some more consultation and consideration.
