The South African Civil Aviation Authority (SACAA) recently announced that new regulations are to be introduced on 01 July 2015 for the use of drones (Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems/RPAS) in South Africa. Most of the rules apply to operators flying drones for commercial purposes, but private drone owners are also affected by some of the regulations. The new regulations do not apply to toy aircraft, which the SACAA define as aircraft "designed or intended for use in play by children".
