Established in 1898 to protect the wildlife of the South African Lowveld, the Kruger National Park of today offers a wildlife experience that ranks with the best in Africa. The Park has currently a size of nearly 2 million hectares and is home to an impressive number of species: 336 trees, 49 fish, 34 amphibians, 114 reptiles, 507 birds and 147 mammals.
Not all of them are in the video, but the most common ones plus some kinda rare sightings.
How to get there?
You can either join an organised tour starting in Johannesburg, Pretoria or Nelspruit or you can rent a car and explore the Park on your own (route description to Nelspruit). TravelComments.com recommends organised tours in to the park for several reasons. The most obvious one is that qualified tour guides simply know the park way better than a first time visitor. They know where the animals are, they know why they are in certain habitats etc.. To us reason enough to join an organised tour to the world famous Kruger National Park and not to do it on your own.

Arusha to host the 1st Global Kilimanjaro Bowl
Tanzania's northern tourist city Arusha will host the first-ever collegiate American football game on Arusha and African soil on 21 May 2011 (kick off 13:00). Named Global Kilimanjaro Bowl, the event will host college teams from the Drake University of Des Moines, Iowa and the CONADEIP All Stars from Mexico. The match will be held in Arusha's Sheikh Amri Abeid Memorial Stadium.
Prior to the game, the athletes will spend time conducting youth football clinics around the city of Arusha. After the match on Saturday, the players of both teams will will work for three days doing service projects in and around Moshi and climb Mount Kilimanjaro before jetting back home from Arusha on the 31 May 2011.

Video shows lightning striking Emirates A380 jet
It is not that uncommon that aircrafts are being hit by lightning during flights. It is actually estimated that most commercial planes are hit by lightning at least once a year. In fact, planes can cause lightning to form when flying through storm clouds. But it is not that common that jets are getting filmed while being struck by lightning bolts.
The Emirates A380 captured in the video was being hit by a series of lightning during its flight from Dubai to London just when the plane was prepared to land at Heathrow International Airport. The plane landed safely a few minutes later, none of the 500 passeners on board the fligth were hurt and the plane was not damaged.

Cape Town: Free Guided Walks at Cape Point
Enthusiastic volunteers are offering free guided walks at Cape Point in Cape Town's Table Mountain National Park.
The meeting point for all hikes is just inside the Cape Point main gate on the 2nd Sunday of each month (May to December 2011). Walkers are advised to wear strong boots and have hat, sun block, raingear, water and a snack. You only need to pay the admission/ conservation fee at the gate; the guided walk is for free.

Brussels Airlines offers 10% "gorilla rebate"
Accoring to several reports, Brussels Airlines, member of the Lufthansa Group, will with immediate effect offer a 10 percent "gorilla rebate" for passengers flying to Entebbe (Uganda) and Kigali (Rwanda), against proof of having purchased a gorilla tracking permit in either of the countries.
The rebate of 10% is applicable to the airfare only. The discount will be reviewed in three months time to assess what assistance the airline had been able to provide to the tourism sectors in Uganda and Rwanda.

Video: The birth of a mosquito
Nobody likes them and there are very good reasons not to like them, but mosquitoes are still pretty amazing creatures. At least from such an perspective as in the video:
Mosquitoes are estimated to transmit disease to more than 700 million people annually worldwide with millions of resulting deaths. At least 2 million people annually die of these diseases. Malaria alone is killing around 800.000 people per year. Very good reasons not to like mosquitoes!

South Africa's answer to the famous "Burning Man" festival in the US is the annual "AfrikaBurn", an art festival which, like the US festival, aims to create a temporary community based on radical self-expression and self-reliance in a non-commercial environment. Word! The festival is taking place in the middle of nowhere - right in the hot and dusty plains of the Tankwa Karoo National Park. Kudos aerocam for the video footage!
