Botswana named by National Geographic as a must-see destination in 2023!

National Geographic has unveiled its Best of the World 2023 list, and Botswana was selected as one of the 25 must-see destinations for the year ahead. Reported by the magazine's global editors, the Best of the World list is themed around travel destinations and experiences that leverage the benefits of tourism to strengthen their local communities and environments, both natural and built. The list is grouped by categories — adventure, culture, nature, family and community — and Botswana is among the Scottish Highlands (Scotland), Slovenia, Big Bend National Park (Texas, USA), and the Azores (Spain) under the nature category. Congratulations Botswana!

National Geographic: Destinations in Namibia and Mozambique among the top 25 destinations for 2022!

National Geographic's editorial teams around the world have picked the top 25 destinations to visit in 2022. The magazine outlined five different categories for its "Best of World 2022" list: nature, adventure, sustainability, culture and history. In the nature category, the Caprivi Strip in Namibia is one of top destinations to visit in the coming year, while in the sustainability category, the Chimanimani National Park in Mozambique has been selected by the editors of National Geographic as one of the must-see places in 2022. Congratulations!

Discover the next great safari. Namibia evokes images of deserts, immense dunes, and parched mountains. But the Caprivi Strip, a narrow finger of land that juts out toward the east in the extreme north of the country, is a green, wildlife-rich territory. The presence of the Okavango, Kwando, Chobe, and Zambezi Rivers creates an ideal habitat for numerous animal species. [src.]

Witness a conservation success. “Chimanimani is a timeless place, where local rainmakers still climb peaks to summon rain,” says National Geographic Explorer and photojournalist Jen Guyton, of one of Mozambique’s newest national parks. Located on the country’s mountainous border with Zimbabwe, Chimanimani National Park, established in October 2020, is home to Mozambique's highest peak, Mount Binga (elevation: 7,992 feet). It was once flush with elephants, lions, and other large animals whose images appear in ancient rock art created by the ancestral San people. [src.]

Your Assignment Brief

• You’ll be flown in from your country of residence to Ushuaia, Argentina where you will board the M/S Expedition on an 11 day assignment. You'll need to be available to be in Antarctica between November 22 - December 2, 2009.
• On the Expedition, you will work alongside Jason Edwards photographing some of the planet's most impressive wildlife including Minke & Humpback Whales, Leopard Seals, Penguins, Albatross and dramatic iceberg landscapes. You will gain invaluable mentoring and hands-on experience in everything from shot set up, technique and composition through to insights into his many years of diverse experience as an award winning photographer.
• Your assignment will involve observing and assisting Jason as well as undertaking your own photographic work. This will involve long days chasing the perfect shot!
• You will keep a daily diary about your time on the trip and upload this to a WorldNomads.com travel journal, including pictures you've taken.
• On your return you will submit your top photographs to National Geographic Channel for publication on www.natgeotv.com.au.
• Most of all, you'll be experiencing what it's like to be a photographer-on assignment with National Geographic!

Who can apply

• Anyone can apply - this is open to photography students, lovers of photography or any non-professional trying to kickstart a career in travel photography.
• Minimum age 18.
• This is a global opportunity - you may apply from any country.
• You should be an exceptional photographer with a lust for adventure, ambition to grow your photographic skills and forge a career in Travel Photography, and of course a desire to travel to Antarctica.
