The City of Johannesburg just announced that as of today (11 April 2017) the Roodepoort Museum is temporarily closed to the public for renovations. The museum will reopen to the public on 11 May 2017.
The Roodepoort Museum, located in the Roodepoort Civic Centre on Christiaan de Wet Road in Roodepoort, is one of the oldest heritage sites in Johannesburg. The museum covers the local history of the Witwatersrand and the development of Roodepoort from mining camp to city. On 18 May 2017 (International Museum Day) visitors will be given an opportunity to see the newly renovated Roodepoort Museum when it hosts its open day. Entrance to this event will be free. The museum is usually only open by appointment.
