Low-cost airline Fastjet, based in Tanzania, has commenced its fourth route in Tanzania. Since 01 Nov 2013 the airline operates flights between Dar Es Salaam and Mbeya three times a week on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Flights depart Julius Nyerere International Airport in Dar Es Salaam at 06:15 and land at Songwe International Airport in Mbeya at 07:35. The return flight departs Mbeya at 08:15, landing at 09:35 in Dar Es Salaam. Fastjet also announced that, as consumer demand grows, it expects to increase the frequency.
Mbeya is a city located in southwest Tanzania. It is the first larger urban settlement encountered when travelling overland from neighbouring Zambia and the location of a regional TAZARA Railway hub. The city's airport, known as Songwe International Airport, is located approximately 10 km from the city center.
