The movie "The Constant Gardener" is based on a 2001 book by well-known author John le Carré. It tells the story of Justin Quayle, a British diplomat in Nairobi, Kenya, whose activist wife Tessa is murdered. Believing that there is more behind the murder, he seeks to uncover the truth behind her death. He finds an international conspiracy of corrupt bureaucracy and pharmaceutical money. Tessa uncovered a corporate scandal in which a large pharmaceutical company working under the cover of AIDS tests and treatments is testing a tuberculosis drug that has severe side effects.

Movie recommendation pt. 2: "Tsotsi" (2005)

The film traces six days in a life of a young guy named David from Soweto who grew up as a streetkid. A couple of years later, now known as "Tsotsi", he is a leader of gang of young criminals. They are involved in all sorts of crime untill that one day when Tsotsi discovers that there is a baby in the backseat of the car he just stole...



The film won the 2005 Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film and was nominated for the Golden Globe for Best Foreign Language Film in 2006.

The plot of "Catch a Fire" is based on a true story that happend in South Africa in the 1980ies. The dramatic thriller, made in 2006, is about a young, rather apolitical man named Patrick Chamusso who is getting accused of carrying out an attack against the Apartheid government. The antagonist is the policeman Nic Vos, played by Tim Robbins, who is in charge of locating the perpetrators of a recent bomb attack. Somehow Patrick, played by Derek Luke, is getting swept into the investigation of the bomb attack...
