South African National Parks (SANParks) has issued an important travel advisory for visitors to Kruger National Park. Due to an ongoing community protest, the road leading to the Punda Maria Gate, located in the northern section of the park, is currently inaccessible. Protestors have blocked the road, making it impossible for guests to use this entry or exit point until further notice.
Visitors who were planning to use the Punda Maria Gate are advised to make use of the following alternative access points:
- Pafuri Gate (northeastern tip) – Accessible via the R525, this gate offers access to the far northern region of Kruger National Park and can serve as a substitute if you're heading to areas near Pafuri or Crooks Corner.
- Phalaborwa Gate (central access) – Located further south via the R71 and R40, this gate provides entry to the central region of Kruger National Park and is ideal for guests rerouting from the west.
- Parfuri Border Post (via Zimbabwe) – Travellers coming from or heading to Zimbabwe may consider crossing through the Parfuri Border, although this route is subject to border control regulations.
Note: Travel times to these alternative gates may be significantly longer depending on your current location.
As at today the road is still blocked
