The CEO of the Namibian Roads Authority (RA), Conrad Lutombi, announced at a media briefing on the progress of the multi-billion-dollar Windhoek <> Okahandja road project during the official opening of an 11 km section of the road between the Omakunde and Gross Barmen interchange, that 87% of road project has been completed. The remaining 13% of work will be completed by March (May?) 2024.
"Today we are opening another stretch of the road from Omakunde interchange up to the Gross Barmen interchange, which is just six kilometres away from the town of Okahandja. Motorists will now have an option to access Okahandja using this stretch or the off-ramp route via Osona. This is a dual carriage on both South and Northern directions," Lutombi said.Mr Lutombi further announced that the 70 km complete stretch between Windhoek <> Okahandja, which was upgraded to a four-lane freeway, will be wholly opened to the public in December 2023 although not 100% complete. The official opening of the road, whose upgrade began in 2016, is expected to take place in July 2024. We'll keep you posted!
btw.: According to Namibia Wildlife Resorts (NRW), the opening of the new section of the Windhoek <> Okahandja road reduces the driving time between Windhoek and the Gross Barmen Resort by 30 minutes.
