Durban Funworld, a well-known beachfront amusement park on Durban's Golden Mile, is set to close after after 75 years in its current location. The park will shut down at the end of the trading day on 01 May 2023 permanently. Nic Steyn, Durban Funworld's owner, has cited the deterioration of the beachfront and difficulties in trying to find an operator to take over the amusement park among the reasons for the closure. The amusement rides, attractions and other assets would be put up for auction online from 20 April 2023.
The eThekwini Municipality has confirmed that it has plans to revitalise the site and is working on a tendering process to attract developers to upgrade the Durban Funworld site in line with the zoning of the beachfront. We'll keep you posted!
