The President of Malawi, Lazarus Chakwera, announced in his State of the Nation Adress (SONA) on 17 February 2023 that Malawi is waiving the visa fees for nationals from several key markets. Nationals from the following countries are exempt from visa fees in Malawi with immediate effect: the United Kingdom, the United States of America, the Netherlands, Germany, Australia, Belgium, Italy, France, Poland, the Nordic Countries (Norway, Finland, Sweden) and future markets, including China, Russia, and Canada.
The Malawian Minister of Tourism, Culture and Wildlife, Dr. Michael Usi, announced in December 2022 that the country planning to waive visa fees for travellers from 16 "priority markets" - the 15 countries mentioned above plus Denmark. For some reason, Denmark was not mentioned by Mr. Chakwera in his SONA.
