South African National Parks (SANParks) just released a "kind reminder" on Facebook regarding the cash free payment system, which was implemented in Addo Elephant National Park with effect from 01 September 2021. The Addo Main Camp and the Kabouga entrance gates are indeed cashless. The Matyholweni Rest Camp in Addo's Main Game Area is only taking cash due to network challenges. According to SANParks, guests with no cash will be directed to make their card payments at Addo Main Camp before exiting Addo Elephant National Park at either of the gates. The Woody Cape section and the Darlington section are also cash only due to lack of network connectivity.

Namibia: Namibia Wildlife Resorts encourages cashless payments!
Namibia Wildlife Resorts (NWR), the state-owned enterprise mandated to run the tourism facilities within the protected areas of Namibia, has started a sensitisation campaign aimed at encouraging domestic and international travellers to start making use of debit/credit cards when making payments for their bookings or any services offered at their various camps and resorts in Namibia. The company embarked on this campaign after noting the risks associated with carrying cash around to make payments.
According to the company's Chief Information Officer, Mr Martin Kantika, NWR has worked tirelessly to ensure that there are sufficient card terminal points to make payments from, so that visitors will never have to carry cash to make use of NWR's services or any purchases at their camps and resorts in Namibia. Nonetheless, the option to pay in cash for bookings or any services will remain available.

GAP Adventures: No More Local Payments
Say good bye to local payments! Effective October 1st, 2009, new Gap Adventures tour bookings will no longer require travellers to pay a portion of their tour price on Day 1 of their tour. What was previously broken out as a local payment for our tours is now being included in the upfront tour pricing as displayed on our website. The changeover period due to the implementation of this policy will mean that on day 1 there will be a mixture of travellers both paying and not paying the local payment, however please note that the overall cost to our travellers has not changed.
For anyone considering booking a tour in the near future, now is the time to lock in our 2009 rates with these local payment inclusive prices. Our 2010 pricing will be coming soon!
People who booked a tour before October 1st 2009 and are travelling after January 1st 2010 will have the option to either bring their local payment funds to their Tour Leader on Day 1, or to prepay their local payment before departure. Anyone who desires to prepay their local payment must contact their Adventure Specialist at Gap Adventures or Travel Agent by October 31st, 2009 to arrange prepayment. If you desire to still pay your local payment upon arrival, the amount to be paid will be clearly stated on your tour voucher and invoice documents.
Please be aware that certain park fees and local charges still apply on some tours, only the Gap Adventures local payment has been discontinued. This change is a result of feedback from our travellers and to streamline and simplify the payment process. [src.: GAP Adventures]

South Africa: Motorists can pay for fuel by credit card
Petrol stations in South Africa are compelled to accept cards, such as credit and debit cards, for fuel payments, the department of energy said on Thursday. The new regulations take effect on Friday (today!) and are expected to reduce the number of robberies that take place at petrol stations.
Another motivating factor behind the new regulations is the 2010 World Cup and the influx of foreigners coming to the country who do not want to carry cash around all the time. [src.]
Just keep in mind that not all not all petrol stations were immediately equipped to handle card payments.
