update (20 June 2018): The free wifi service at Botswana's four international airports is limited to 60 minutes!
The Botswana Investment Trade Centre (BITC) and Botswana Fibre Networks (BoFiNet) have introduced free wifi at Botswana's four international airports, namely Sir Seretse Khama International Airport (GBE) in Gaborone, Kasane International Airport (BBK) in Kasane, Maun Airport (MUB) in Maun and Francistown International Airport (FRW) in Francistown. To access the service while at one of the airports, you have to select the "Go Botswana" network on your mobile device and fill-in a brief questionaire on the landing page.

Kenya: Free 24hrs WiFi at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi!
Kenya Airports Authority (KAA), the owner and operator of nine civilian airports and airstrips in Kenya, has introduced 24hrs free WiFi at the country's main international Airport, Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (NBO) in Nairobi. The airport previously granted free access to the WiFi network for only one hour after which users were subjected to pay to use the service.

Ethiopian Airlines: Free wifi at Addis Ababa Bole International Airport!
Ethiopia's flag carrier, Ethiopian Airlines, in cooperation with Ethiopian Airports Services have availed free Wi-Fi connection at Addis Ababa Bole International Airport (ADD) in Addis Ababa with immediate effect. The introduction of free wifi at the airline's main hub will particulary benefit transit passengers waiting for connecting flights.
Ethiopian Airlines has also fully digitalized all its business processes such as aircraft maintenance and Flight Operations, Commercial Operations, Finance, HRM, Customer Services, Procurement and supply Chain Management, Online learning, management approvals and authorizations by removing paper from the entire system as of 28 September 2017.
Ethiopian Airlines is the fastest growing Airline in Africa. It commands the lion's share of the pan-African passenger and cargo network operating the youngest and most modern fleet to more than 100 international passenger and cargo destinations across five continents.

South Africa: ACSA has upgraded the free WiFi offerings at its airports!
Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) has upgraded its free WiFi service at its nine airports* in South Africa. Passengers in the boarding areas of the airports now have either 4 hours of WiFi connection or 1 gigbyte of data available at no charge. When the complimentary four hours have lapsed or the one gigabyte of data is reached, users continue to use the WiFi service on a pay as you go basis. Purchased access can be used at any Airports@vast Hotspots throughout South Africa.

Windhoek: Wernhil Park Shopping Centre now offers free WiFi!
The Wernhil Park Shopping Centre in Windhoek, the second largest mall in Namibia, introduced free WiFi on 01 August 2016. The new service is available within the mall's common areas for all shoppers, tenants and the general public. The data usage of the WiFi service is limited to 100mb per day and user.

Cape Town: MyCiTi launches free WiFi offering!
MyCiTi, the high-quality bus-based transit system in Cape Town, has launched a pilot phase of free WiFi provision on 10 of its buses. The new service provides each passenger with 50MB of data free every day from any WiFi enabled device (smartphone, tablet, laptop) as well as with free value-added content, such as news, weather and other multimedia, over and above the daily 50MB data limit. Once the daily cap is reached, passengers can purchase additional data
using a credit card. Users who have an existing internet account at home
that includes access to public WiFi hotspots, such as AlwaysOn, G-Connect and MWEB, can simply log in for internet access.
All 10 MyCiTi buses equipped with the new WiFi service have "WiFi available here" signs. If you want to use the free WiFi service, enable WiFi on your device, connect to "Vast", and choose "Complimentary Access". You will be required to complete a short registration form the first time you access the WiFi.

Rwanda: 487 of Kigali's city transport buses connected to 4G LTE Internet
A total of 487 city transport buses in Rwanda's capital Kigali have been fitted with routers, which allow passengers on board to have full access to free super-fast 4G LTE internet. All buses are belonging to Kigali Bus Services, Royal Express and Rwanda Federation of Transport Cooperative (RFTC). The new service is part of the "Smart Kigali" initiative, which was launched in 2013 with the aim of providing free wireless connection as well as improving internet connectivity and access around Kigali.

Durban: Free WiFi in Umhlanga!
The resort town of Umhlanga, located just north of Durban, has unveiled its own free WiFi network. The Umhlanga WiFi connection project offers tourists and locals free access to the internet and covers the area from Chartwell Drive to Lighthouse Drive. The famous Umhlanga Village is also part of the coverage. According to the Chairman of Umhlanga Tourism Peter Rose, beachgoers in Umhlanga will also be able to use the free WiFi network by December 2014.
Umhlanga is not the only area in Durban to offer free WiFi. Florida Road in Morningside, known for its cafes, restaurants, pubs and nightclubs, already offers visitors free access to its WiFi network since June 2014.

30 minutes free Wi-Fi at South Africa's international airports
Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) and Wi-Fi service provider AlwaysOn recently implemented Wi-Fi across all nine of ACSA's airports in South Africa. To access the service, which is compatible with Wi-Fi enabled devices such as laptops, smartphones and tablets, users are required to register. Once registered, the usage of the Wi-Fi network is for free for the first 30 minutes or 50MB, whichever comes first. In case users need more than 30 minutes or 50MB, the Wi-Fi network can also be used on a pay-as-you-go basis. The prices for the paid-for Wi-Fi vary between R15.00 and R175.00 (time or data limited options are available). Purchased access can be used at any AlwaysOn hotspot throughout South Africa. Cape Town: Free Wi-Fi at Harrington Square in the District Six!
The Harrington Square, located in the District Six in Cape Town, now offers free WiFi. This initiative forms part of a project of the Cape Town Partnership, Connected Space, District Six Museum, Charly's Bakery, Woodheads, and The Bank. To access the service, which is compatible with Wi-Fi enabled devices such as laptops, smartphones and tablets, you will be directed to a URL where you can log in. For each active user, there will be a 100MB cap per person, per day. Additional vouchers can be picked up from the District Six Museum.

Rwanda: Free WiFi in Kigali
The government of Rwanda has started to cover Kigali with wireless hotspots and is planning to provide free WiFi coverage to all schools and public buildings, markets, bus stations and hotels in the city. The so-called "Smart Kigali" initiative is one of the ways Rwanda is trying to reinvent itself as a regional high tech hub. All a consumer needs to connect to the service in Kigali is a WiFi enabled device, such as a smartphone, a tablets or a laptop.
According to the City of Kigali (21 Sept 2013), the free WiFi service in public places will initially be provided at Union Trade Center, Kigali City Tower, Kigali City Market, MTN Center, Nyabugogo Bus Park, Remera-Kisementi, Stade Amahoro, Kigali Public Library, Kanombe International Airport, KBC, Kacyiru Ministere, KIST and KIE. Internet connectivity at these sites will be powered by BSC Ltd, MTN Rwanda, TIGO Rwanda Ltd, AIRTEL, LIQUID Telecom and ISPA. Fifteen of Kigali Bus Services’ large buses have also been equipped with the free WiFi service.

Cape Town: Free Wi-Fi at St Andrew's Square in Green Point
Visitors to the St Andrew's Square, a small urban park located on the corner of Buitengracht Street and Ribeek Street in Green Point (Cape Town), now have access to unlimited free Wi-Fi. The Green Point City Improvement District (GPCID), the City of Cape Town and some other entities have teamed up to introduce the service to the publc. To access this Wi-Fi, which is compatible with Wi-Fi enabled devices such as laptops, smartphones and tablets,
simply select "GreenPointCID- FreeWi-Fi" from the list of available hotspots. No registration and no credit card details are required.
