EgyptAir doubles baggage allowance

Egypt's national carrier EgyptAir launched a new baggage allowance policy for its international (and domestic passengers) effective from 01 June 2011. With this, EgyptAir becomes one of the very few airlines in the world to allow two checked in bags free of charge on both its international and domestic sectors.

International Routes - adult passengers and children
  • First and business class - Checked baggage allowance: 2 pieces with a maximum of 32kg/158cm per piece | Handluggage: 2 pieces with maximum weight 8kg
  • Economy class - Checked baggage allowance: 2 pieces with a maximum of 23kg/158cm per piece | Handluggage: 1 piece with maximum weight 8kg
International Routes - infants:
  • All classes - Checked baggage allowance: 1 piece with a maximum of 10 kg/115cm | Handluggage: 1 fold up collapsible stroller
United States & Canada - infants:
  • All classes - Checked baggage allowance: 1 piece with a maximum of 23kg/115cm | Handluggage: 1 fold-up collapsible stroller
For code share flights on United Airlines:
United Airlines allows 1 piece of cabin baggage and 1 personal item for all first, business and economy class with a maximum dimension per piece of 19cm x 31cm x 53cm. This also applies to infants not occupying a seat.

British Airways: new checked baggage policy from 01 Feb 2011

British Airways will change its checked baggage policy for customers booking in full-fare economy (Y class) on all long-haul flights with effect from 01 Feb 2011.
  • Travellers can now board with two pieces of checked luggage. The new allowance will apply to all new bookings from 01 Feb 2011.
  • British Airways Gold & Silver Executive Club cardholders will now be entitled to a two-bag allowance when travelling in economy class on American Airlines and Iberia as well
  • There is an an increase from US$50 to US$60 (or equivalent) for the heavy bag charge in British Airways World Traveller/Euro Traveller & World Traveller Plus (economy/premium economy) for bags weighing between 23kg and 32kg.
