South Africa: Airlink to increase flights between Johannesburg <> Vilanculos!

South African regional carrier Airlink has announced that it will increase flights between OR Tambo International Airport (JNB) in Johannesburg and Vilankulo Airport (VNX) in Vilanculos, Mozambique. The airline currently operates daily flights on the route and will introduce additional flights on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays in response to increased demand for direct services to the popular Mozambican coastal town. The schedule change becomes effective on 08 January 2024. Airlink will terminate flights between Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport (MQP), located located 27 km north east of Mbombela (Nelspruit), and Vilanculos from 05 January 2024.

South Africa: Airlink to resume flights between Nelspruit <> Vilanculos!

South African privately-owned regional carrier Airlink has announced the resumption of flights between Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport (MQP), located located 27 km north east of Nelspruit, and Vilankulo Airport (VNX) in Vilanculos, Mozambique. Effective 02 July 2021, the airline will operate two weekly flights on Mondays and Fridays.
Vilanculos is a popular beach holiday destination in Mozambique and gateway to the Bazaruto Archipelago. It is renowned for its spectacular beaches, marine life, restaurants, a variety of accommodation options as well as markets for fresh produce, arts and crafts.

South Africa: Airlink to launch three additional routes to Mozambique!

South African privately-owned regional carrier Airlink is set introduce three more routes to Mozambique. Effective 28 October 2020, the airline will launch a two weekly service between OR Tambo International Airport (JNB) in Johannesburg and Pemba Airport (POL) in Pemba. From 10 November 2020, Airlink will offer two weekly flights between Johannesburg and Vilanculos Airport (VNX) in Vilanculos as well as two weekly flights between Johannesburg and Beira Airport (BEW) in Beira. These services provide travellers with seamless connectivity with Airlink's new services linking Johannesburg with Cape Town and also with Durban. Connections are also available to the airline's other South African destinations and to key destinations throughout the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region.

Ethiopian Mozambique Airlines (EMA) launched flights between Maputo <> Vilankulo!

According to various sources, Ethiopian Mozambique Airlines (EMA), a subsidiary of Ethiopian Airlines in Mozambique, has launched scheduled flights between Maputo International Airport (MPM) in Maputo and Vilankulo Airport (VNX) in Vilankulo (or Vilanculos) in Mozambique's coastal Inhambane Province on 03 March 2019. The airline operates two weekly flights on Sundays and Tuesdays between the two destinations. Vilankulo (or Vilanculos) is the gateway to the famous Bazaruto Archipelago, a group of six islands in Mozambique known for its sandy beaches, coral reefs, and opportunities for surfing and fishing.

Airlink to increase flights between Nelspruit <> Vilanculos!

South African carrier Airlink is set to increase flights between Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport (MQP), located about 60km north east of Nelspruit, and Vilanculos Airport (VNX) in Vilanculos. The airline currently operates flights on Thursdays and Sundays.
  • On 26 March 2017, additional flight days on Tuesdays and Fridays will be added 
  • On 04 July 2017, additional flight days on Mondays and Saturdays will be added
  • On 07 August 2017 with the addition of a Wednesday flight day, the service will be daily

Airlink to increase flights to various destinations in Southern Africa in 2017!

South African carrier Airlink is set to increase the number of flights to various destinations in Southern Africa in the next couple of month.
  • Effective 06 February 2017, Airlink will introduce a third daily flight operating midmorning between Cape Town and Windhoek. The midmorning flights will depart daily from Cape Town International Airport (CPT) at 10h00 arriving at Windhoek's Hosea Kutako International Airport (WDH) at 12:05. The return flight will depart from Hosea Kutako International Airport (WDH) at 15:00 arriving at Cape Town International Airport (CPT) at 17:05.
  • Airlink will during 2017 increase the frequency of its flights between Nelspruit and Vilanculos, Mozambique. The airline currently offers flights on Thursdays and Sundays.
    Flights will depart Nelspruit at 11:45 and will arrive in Vilanculos at 12:55.
    • On 26 March 2017, additional flights on Tuesdays and Fridays will be added. 
    • On 4 July 2017, additional flights on Mondays and Saturdays will be added.
    • On 7 August 2017 flights on Wednesdays will be added, so that the service will be daily.
  • Effective 26 March 2017, Airlink will increase the frequency of its flights between Nelspruit and Livingstone to a daily service. Additional flights will operate on Thursdays and Sundays. Flights depart Nelspruit at 11:35 and will arrive in Livingstone at 13:10.
  • Effective 13 April 2017, Airlink will increase flight frequency between Johannesburg and Vilanculos, Mozambique, offering a daily service. The additional flights will operate on Thursdays and Sundays. The direct Johannesburg <> Vilanculos flights depart Johannesburg at 11:30 and arrive in Vilanculos at 13:10. 
  • Effective 6 June 2017, Airlink will increase flight frequency between Cape Town and Maun, Botswana, offering a daily service. The additional flights will operate on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Flights depart Cape Town at 10:35 and will arrive in Maun at 13:05.

Airlink to launch flights between Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport and Vilanculos

South African airline Airlink is set to launch scheduled flights between Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport (IATA: MQP), located north east of Nelspruit, and Vilankulo Airport (IATA: VNX) in Vilanculos in Mozambique's Inhambane Province on 19 June 2014. The flights between the two destinations, which will be operated twice weekly (Thursday and Sunday) on one of Airlink's 12 Embraer ERJ135 regional jets, will depart Nelspruit at 11:35 and will arrive in Vilanculos at 12:50. The return flight will depart Vilanculos at 13:45 and arrive in Nelspruit at 15:30.

Airlink to launch flights between Nelspruit <> Vilanculos

South African regional carrier, Airlink, announced that it will launch flights between Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport (KMIA) in Nelspruit and Vilanculos Airport (VNX) in Vilanculos in Mozambique. From 19 June 2014 the airline will initially operate two flights per week, with departures on Thursdays and Sundays.
Airlink will also increase its current flights between Johannesburg and Vilanculos to a daily schedule in June 2014.

South Africa: Airlink to launch operations to Kasane (Botswana) and Vilanculos (Mozambique)

Privately owned South African airline Airlink will commence scheduled direct services on two new over border routes, Johannesburg <> Kasane in Botswana and Johannesburg <> Vilanculos in Mozambique from Friday 22 March 2013.
Johannesburg <> Kasane will operate initially on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday departing OR Tambo International Airport at 11:45 and arriving back in Johannesburg at 15:50. From August 2013 the service will operate daily.
Johannesburg <> Vilanculos will operate initially on Monday, Wednesday, Friday departing OR Tambo International Airport at 10:30 and arriving back at 15:40. Tuesday and Saturday flights will be added in July or August 2013.
The inclusion of these two new regional routes brings Airlink's route network to a total of 31 destinations serviced, of which 17 are over-border destinations.

Comair suspends flights from Johannesburg to Nelspruit & Vilanculos

Comair Limited,  operator of British Airways in South Africa and kulula.com, has announced that it will stop its Johannesburg <> Nelspruit service as of 11 Feb 2011. In addition to that the airline also confirmed that it will suspend the Johannesburg <> Vilanculos (Mozambique) service. Federal Air, one of the market leader in aviation shuttle and charter services, will continue with the service under its own brand.

Mozambique: Massive entry visa increase at Vilanculos Airport

Benguerra Lodge, situated on Benguerra, the second largest island in the Bazaruto Archipelago, is reporting that visa fees at the Vilanculos Airport have increased to US$95/person (previously US$30/person) with immediate effect. Visa fees must be paid in cash. It is therefore advised to get the entry visa in advance to avoid delays at the airport.
