We are a small personal travel company with a passion for getting out and exploring new and exiting destinations around the world. Most people believe that the only way to see Africa is by vehicle. We know from experience that after a couple of days biking with us you will realise that this is the only way to truly appreciate this magnificent continent.
On our 16 day biking adventure we travel from Nairobi in Kenya through Tanzania to Dar es Salaam on the Indian Ocean coast.
Alternatively you can do the reverse journey (reverse itinerary from the below). Biking far from busy roads and main tourist routes you will experience a different face of Africa - local villages and traditional tribesmen, breathtaking scenery and wildlife grazing on the plains. We travel through open savannah, desert, mountain rainforest and tropical coastline. We follow the foothills of Mt Kilimanjaro with its snow-covered peaks and camp in the wilderness under a cloudless African sky.
We take a break from our bikes to view Amboseli National Park and Ngorongoro Crater, which hosts the largest concentration of plains game anywhere in the world and gives you the wildlife experience that East Africa is famous for. Enjoy a day hike and visit a local school in the unspoilt Usambara Mountains. Biking through the Usambara Mountains and down to the tropical coastal forest and villages brings us finally to Dar es Salaam, “Haven of Peace”.
Some people choose to extend their trip and follow with a trek of Mt Kilimanjaro or experience the culture and buzz of Zanzibar Island.

The lodge is located on the beachfront with amazing views of the open ocean, Lamu island, Shela village and dhows sailing past. It is the perfect place to come and relax for days or weeks, away from the stresses and strains of everyday life. Here we offer more of a rustic ‘Robinson Crusoe experience’; we work closely with the local Swahili people taking into account their culture and only using local methods and materials to create a refreshing, eco-friendly, alternative style holiday.
We have six beach huts called bandas, including one family size which sleeps 4-8. The others have a double bed downstairs and a single bed mounted in the roof, a front porch and en suite shower, sink and flush toilet. All banda’s are provided with bedding, mosquito nets and towels. All have electricity with British socket from 7pm till around 10pm after which paraffin lamps are provided.

It sleeps between two and six people, with wooden floors, branches coming through the walls and a large veranda on the first floor stretching right around the tree, where drinks can be brought to you. It is an amazing experience to be lying in bed in a baobab tree watching the colourful birds fly by with a view across the village over to the dunes of Lamu island.
The restaurant seating area is shaded from the sun with large palm thatched umbrellas, conveniently situated with a fantastic view of the Indian Ocean. Our two experienced chefs prepare a variety of dishes from traditional Swahili cuisine to more conventional western and vegetarian foods. [more info]

Set in 24,000 hectares of bio-diverse lush, green South African bush, Shamwari Game Reserve is the ultimate Big Five experience. As a volunteer you will work behind-the-scenes with the conservation department, whilst getting the opportunity to become involved with the two Born Free Big Cat Sanctuaries located at the reserve. Situated in the Eastern Cape of South Africa Shamwari strives to conserve what man is fast destroying. Set-up in early 1990 the reserve was the vision of one man’s dream, to bring the once free roaming wildlife back to this part of Africa.
The reserve is constantly monitoring and introducing game throughout the year, making Shamwari Game Reserve one of our most exciting options for your volunteer placement. Conservation at Shamwari is about the management, development and rehabilitation of the environment to create a sustainable ecosystem. The conservation department at Shamwari has a highly effective team including a qualified wildlife veterinarian, ecologist and environmentalist.
The accommodation is situated on the reserve; and volunteers stay in twin rooms with en-suite bathrooms. There is also a lounge, dining room and a swimming pool as well as internet access and phones. All meals are provided for the volunteers – they have three meals a day, lunch is normally a packed lunch out in the reserve. The course coordinators also lecture the volunteers on different aspects of the reserve and the wildlife, helping the volunteers understand their role at the reserve and the impact that can be made.
