Mozambique: LAM – Mozambique Airlines to suspend flights to Cape Town!

LAM – Mozambique Airlines, the national carrier of Mozambique, has announced the suspension of its direct flights between Maputo International Airport (MPM) in Maputo and Cape Town International Airport (CPT) in Cape Town, South Africa, starting 08 April 2025. This decision is part of the airline’s ongoing business restructuring strategy aimed at enhancing profitability and operational efficiency.
For now, LAM will prioritize domestic routes and continue its popular Maputo <> Johannesburg service.
Passengers with existing bookings on the affected route are being informed about available alternative travel options. Those unable to proceed with their journey will be eligible for a full refund.

Mozambique: LAM - Mozambique Airlines suspends its only intercontinental route and cuts more regional flights!

LAM - Mozambique Airlines, the national carrier of Mozambique, announced on 18 February 2025 that it has suspended its only intercontinental route, citing the service as "unsustainable." Effective immediately, flights between Maputo International Airport (MPM) in Maputo and Humberto Delgado Airport (LIS) in Lisbon, Portugal, have been discontinued.
In addition, LAM confirmed the suspension of two regional routes - Maputo to RG Mugabe International Airport (HRE) in Harare, Zimbabwe, and Maputo to Kenneth Kaunda International Airport (LUN) in Lusaka, Zambia—due to financial losses.
As a result, the airline now operates only two regional routes: Maputo to OR Tambo International Airport (JNB) in Johannesburg, South Africa, and Maputo to Julius Nyerere International Airport (DAR) in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Meanwhile, the sustainability of LAM’s recently launched service between Maputo and Cape Town International Airport (CPT) in Cape Town, South Afica, remains under evaluation.

Mozambique: LAM - Mozambique Airlines launches three new routes to Johannesburg in South Africa!

The flag carrier of Mozambique, LAM - Mozambique Airlines, has announced on its Facebook page that it is set to launch direct flights to Johannesburg from the cities of Tete, Nampula and Pempa. Flights between Pemba Airport (POL) in Pempa, the capital of the province of Cabo Delgado in northern Mozambique, and OR Tambo International Airport (JNB) in Johannesburg will commence on 29 January 2024, while flights between Chingozi Airport (TET) in Tete, the capital city of Tete Province in west-central Mozambique, and Johannesburg as well as between Nampula Airport (NPL) in Nampula, the capital city of Nampula Province in northern Mozambique, and Johannesburg are set to start on 30 January 2024. LAM - Mozambique Airlines will operate three weekly flights on all three new routes.

Mozambique: LAM - Mozambique Airlines has launched a new non-stop service to South Africa!

The flag carrier of Mozambique, LAM - Mozambique Airlines, has introduced new non-stop service to South Africa. With effect from today (29 September 2023), the airline is operating one weekly flight between Inhambane Airport (INH) in Inhambane and OR Tambo International Airport (JNB) in Johannesburg as well as two weekly flights on Wednesdays and Fridays between Johannesburg and Inhambane. LAM - Mozambique Airlines is using a 72-seat Bombardier Q400 twin-prop on the route.

LAM-Mozambique Airlines to launch flights between Maputo <> Cape Town! [update #2]

update (13 December 2023): LAM Mozambique Airlines' inaugural flight from Maputo International Airport (MPM) in Maputo touched down at the Cape Town International Airport in Cape Town, last night, 12 December 2023.

update (03 November 2023):  According to news reports, LAM - Mozambique Airlines will launch its Maputo <> Cape Town service on 22 November 2023!

The official Tourism, Trade and Investment Promotion Agency for Cape Town & the Western Cape, WESGRO, announced in a press release (12 September 2023), that the flag carrier of Mozambique, LAM - Mozambique Airlines, is set to launch flights to Cape Town in South Africa. According to WESGRO, the airline will commence operations between Maputo International Airport (MPM) in Maputo and Cape Town International Airport (CPT) in Cape Town on 15 October 2023. LAM - Mozambique Airlines will service the route to the Cape three times a week. We'll keep you posted!

LAM - Mozambique Airlines to resume flights between Maputo <> Lisbon! [update]

update (16 September 2020): LAM - Mozambique Airlines has announced the extension of its service between Maputo International Airport (MPM) in Maputo and Humberto Delgado Airport (LIS) in Lisbon, Portugaluntil January 2021.

The flag carrier of Mozambique, LAM - Mozambique Airlines, is set to resume flights between Maputo International Airport (MPM) in Maputo and Humberto Delgado Airport (LIS) in Lisbon, Portugal. Effective 25 August 2020, the airline will operate one return flight per week to Portugal's capital (Maputo > Lisbon on Tuesdays; Lisbon > Maputo on Wednesdays). LAM will initially operate the service only until 30 September 2020. Flights will be carried out on board an Airbus A330-300 aircraft, with 278 seats – 255 in economy class and 23 in business class. The return of LAM to Europe, initially scheduled for 31 March 2020, was postponed three times due the coronavirus pandemic.

LAM - Mozambique Airlines to resume flights between Maputo <> Lisbon! [update]

update (12 June 2020): LAM - Mozambique Airlines has postponed the resumption of services between Maputo <> Lisbon. No date has been named.

update (22 May 2020): LAM - Mozambique Airlines has postponed the resumption of services between Maputo <> Lisbon to August 2020 (03 August 2020).

The flag carrier of Mozambique, LAM - Mozambique Airlines, is set to resume flights between Maputo International Airport (MPM) in Maputo and Humberto Delgado Airport (LIS) in Lisbon, Portugal, on 02 June 2020. The flights are scheduled to take place on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from Maputo to Lisbon, and on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays from Lisbon to Maputo. Flights will be operated on board an Airbus A330 - 200 aircraft, with a capacity of 269 seats, 251 in economy and 18 in business class.

LAM - Mozambique Airlines to resume flights between Maputo <> Lisbon!

The flag carrier of Mozambique, LAM - Mozambique Airlines, is set to resume flights between Maputo International Airport (MPM) in Maputo and Humberto Delgado Airport (LIS) in Lisbon, Portugal. As of March 2020, the airline will operate three weekly flights on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays from Maputo to Lisbon and on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from Lisbon to Maputo. Flights will be operated by a 267-seat Airbus A340-300 aircraft with 213 seats in economy class, 42 seats in premium economy and 12 seats in executive.
According to media reports, LAM - Mozambique Airlines' new service to Portugal will be carried out by Hi Fly, a Portuguese charter airline specialized in the supply of commercial aircraft on wet lease

Mozambique: LAM - Mozambique Airlines & Fastjet (Mozambique) have signed a codeshare agreement! [update]

update (18 April 2019): The codeshare relationship between Fastjet (Mozambique) and LAM Mozambique Airlines will be initiated on the Maputo <> Beira & Maputo <> Quelimane routes effective 18 April 2019, soon to be followed by the Maputo <> Tete route.

Mozambique's national airline, LAM Mozambique Airlines (Linhas Aéreas de Moçambique - LAM), and Fastjet (Mozambique) have signed a codeshare agreement. Under the agreement the two airlines will sell seats on each other's flights between Maputo, Beira, Tete and Quelimane, using their respective airline codes. The codeshare relationship will be implemented first on the Maputo <> Beira route from 25 February 2019, thereafter, followed by the Maputo <> Tete and Maputo <> Quelimane routes during March 2019. The agreement is intended to strengthen the route networks of LAM and Fastjet (Mozambique), to facilitate commercial sales and to improve passenger convenience in flight schedules. It follows the relationship announced by the two carriers in March 2018.

LAM Mozambique Airlines to launch nonstop flights between Beira <> Johannesburg!

LAM Mozambique Airlines, the flag carrier of Mozambique, is set to launch nonstop flights between Beira Airport (BEW) in Beira and OR Tambo International Airport (JNB) in Johannesburg. Effective 30 September 2018, the airline will operate three weekly flights between the two destinations. The coastal city of Beira, one of the oldest of all and the second largest in the country, is situated on the Mozambique Channel (Indian Ocean) at the mouths of the Púngoè and Búzi rivers in Mozambique's central Sofala Province.

Air Botswana and LAM - Mozambique Airlines sign agreement to cooperate!

The flag carrier of Botswana, Air Botswana, and the national airline of Mozambique, LAM - Mozambique Airlines, have signed a Special Prorate Agreement (SPA). The agreement extends Air Botswana's route network from Gaborone, Maun and Francistown by providing connections in Johannesburg in South Africa to seven of LAM's destinations in Mozambique. These include Maputo, Beira, Vilanculos, Pemba, Nampula and Inhambane. The SPA similarly allows for the same reciprocal arrangement for passengers traveling from Mozambique with LAM, who will be able to book and purchase tickets via Johannesburg onwards on Air Botswana's flights to Gaborone, Maun and Francistown. The SPA also allows for through check-in of baggage.

LAM - Mozambique Airlines introduces flights between Maputo <> Harare!

The flag carrier of Mozambique, LAM - Mozambique Airlines, introduced scheduled service between Beira Airport (BEW) in Beira and Harare International Airport (HRE) in Harare as well as between Maputo International Airport (MPM) in Maputo and Harare on 15 June 2016. As of 04 July 2016, the service will be consolidated to the Maputo <> Harare route, with three weekly operations on board Embraer ERJ145 aircraft.

LAM Mozambique Airlines introduces cheap flights

The flag carrier of Mozambique, LAM Mozambique Airlines, has announced the introduction of cheap air fares, known as "Letzgo", for selected domestic flights between the cities of Maputo, Beira, Nampula, Tete and Quelimane as from January 2015. The "Letzgo" flights will all be at night (with departure times between 20:00 and 23:55) on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays as well as Saturdays. There is no catering on these flights and passengers are only allowed 10kg of checked luggage and 5kg of hand luggage. Flights are operated by a 50-seat LAM Embraer 145 and a 128-seat Boeing 737-300.

LAM Mozambique to expand its Johannesburg services

The flag carrier of Mozambique, Linhas Aéreas de Moçambique (LAM Mozambique), will expand its services to Johannesburg in South Africa. From 28 April 2013 the airline will add a total of 10 weekly flights to its current schedule, including a daily service from Nampula in northern Mozambique.

LAM Mozambique Airlines to resume Maputo <> Harare flights

Mozambique's national airline Linhas Aéreas de Moçambique, better known as LAM Mozambique Airlines, has announced that it will resume flights between Maputo and Harare in Zimbabwe. Starting on 31 Oct 2012, LAM will fly twice a week to the Zimbabwean capital - on Wednesdays and Sundays. The flights, both to and from Harare, will be via Beira, Mozambique's second largest city.
LAM Mozambique Airlines last served Harare in the early 2000s, but then dropped the service due to the downturn in the Zimbabwean economy.

LAM Mozambique Airlines to increase flights between Maputo & Dar Es Salaam (Tanzania)

According to a tweet from the Mozambique News Agency (@MozNewsAgency), the Mozambican national carrier Linhas Aéreas de Moçambique, better known as LAM Mozambique Airlines, will increase its current two-weekly service between Maputo in Mozambique and Dar Es Salaam in Tanzania to a three-weekly service. The airline is operating an Embraer E-190 between the two destinations. As far as we know LAM has so far not announced when the increase will come into effect.

LAM Mozambique Airlines likely to restart Maputo <> Harare flights in October 2012

No official announcement has been made so far, but according to flight search engines, Mozambique's national airline Linhas Aéreas de Moçambique, better known as LAM Mozambique Airlines, will re-establish twice weekly flights (Wednesdays and Sundays) from Maputo via Beira to Harare in Zimbabwe on 27 October 2012.
LAM Mozambique Airlines last served Harare in the early 2000s, but then dropped the service due to the downturn in the Zimbabwean economy.
