USA: Delta Air Lines finally gets approval for South Africa triangle route!

Major US airline Delta Air Lines's application to fly a triangular route between Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) in Atlanta in Georgia and Cape Town International Airport (CPT) in Cape Town via OR Tambo International Airport (JNB) in Johannesburg has finally been approved by the South African government. The airline has tried for nearly two years to win approval from the South African government to operate this routing. According to news reports, Delta Air Lines is now planning to launch the triangular route Atlanta > Johannesburg > Cape Town > Atlanta later in 2022 to offer its customers more choice of travel between the U.S. and South Africa. Covid-19: Namibia extends the current public health measures for a period of 30 days!

Namibia's President Dr. Hage G. Geingob announced on the occasion of the 43rd Covid-19 briefing on the national response measures on 13 May 2022 that the current dispensation which came into effect for a period of 29 days from 13 April 2022, will expire at midnight on 15 May 2022. All Covid-19 public health and safety regulations in Namibia remain unchanged and are therefore extended for the period commencing on 16 May 2022 until midnight on 15 June 2022.
Namibia has now recorded a cumulative total of 162,020 cases, since the 17 March 2020 index case, of which a total 1,034 remain actively infected. The cumulative number of deaths resulting from Covid-19 and related illnesses stands at 4,029 or 2.5% of cases.
The rate of infection in Namibia has risen sharply over the last 29-day observance period, recording a three-fold increase in the weekly positivity rate, from 2.1% (in the week commencing 11 April 2022) to 7.5% as at 11 May 2022. Year-on-Year data comparisons further reveal that at this time in 2021, the positivity rate in the country stood at 11.9%, at the onset of the Third Wave.
The rise in new cases in Namibia has been recorded predominantly in the towns of Windhoek, Rehoboth, Okahandja and Otjiwarongo, and is attributable primarily to cluster outbreaks in various primary and secondary schools and hostels. 

Zimbabwe: Air Zimbabwe is facing flight schedule disruptions due to fuel shortages! [update]

update (13 May 2022): Air Zimbabwe has announced that the anticipated flight schedule disruptions have been averted as key suppliers of Jet A1 fuel have advised of resumption of normal supply of the product!

The flag carrier of Zimbabwe, Air Zimbabwe, has warned of "an anticipated flight schedule disruption due to Jet A1 fuel shortages". According to a press statement, the airline's fuel suppliers have advised of constraints in the movement of Jet A1 fuel. Air Zimbabwe will advise on flight schedule changes as soon as possible and continues to monitor the supply situation. Ticket holders are advised to contact the airline for further information. Agulhas National Park: The Cape Agulhas Lighthouse precinct is getting an upgrade! [update #3]

update (26 March 2024): According to a media statement by the Department of Tourism, the overall progress on site is now at 73% and it is anticipated that the Lighthouse Precinct Project in the Agulhas National Park will be completed in June 2024.

update (26 March 2024): According to a posting on Facebook by the Department of Tourism, the Agulhas Lighthouse Infrastructure Project in Agulhas National Park is still underway. The work on site includes construction of a restaurant, an Interpretation centre - including vendor stalls, ablution facilities, curio shops, a booking office, lecture theatre and construction of a reception area and offices.

update (25 May 2023): According to South African Deputy Minister of Tourism, Fish Mahlalela, the Lighthouse Precinct Project in Agulhas National Park is set to be completed by early 2024. We'll keep you posted!

South African National Parks (SANParks) is currently upgrading and renewing the existing Cape Agulhas Lighthouse precinct within Agulhas National Park, in order to provide an improved tourism offering and facilities. The project, which commenced in March 2022 and is expected to be finished in December 2023, includes a tourism reception area for Agulhas National Park, a restaurant, a retail facility, an interpretation and exhibition area, a multi-use auditorium, vendor stalls, toilet facilities and an outdoor multi-use open area for events, as well as a parking area.

During the course of construction it might be necessary to close the Cape Agulhas Lighthouse temporarily to the public. There are no ablution facilities available during the entire construction period. There is a loss of parking spaces at the back of the lighthouse, however there are limited parking spaces off the paved road at the front of the lighthouse on the sea side.  Visitors are also welcome to park at the southernmost parking area and walk along the boardwalk to the lighthouse.
