According to
Namibia's Ministry of Environment and Tourism, poachers killed a total of 23 rhinos for their horns in the southwest African country in 2014. All of the 23 rhinos were killed in the remote north-eastern
Kunene region and in the
Etosha National Park.
Namibia is home to about 1,750 black rhinos (out of a global population of 4,800) as well as to 469 white rhinos. Poachers also killed 76 elephants in
Namibia's National Parks and Conservancies last year.
