The short film "Mwansa The Great", directed by Zambia-born
Rungano Nyoni, has been nominated for the
2012 Orange British Academy Film Awards in the category "Best Short Film". The film already won the
Audience Award (Vienna Independent Shorts (Vienna, Austria)), a
Special Jury Mention (Curtocircuito International Film Festival (Galicia, Spain)) and the award for
Griot Best Short Film (Festival de Cine Africano De Tarifa 2011 (Tarifa, Spain)). Congrats on that, kudos, Rungano, and good luck in February!
"
Director Rungano Nyoni has made, with Mwansa the Great, a wonderfully hopeful film about mourning. With ease and plenty of humor, Nyoni ventured into the tricky topic and finds a narrative approach that works beautifully. Desires are visualized here unsentimentally and grief is acted out in escapism in a very special way."
